More and more marketers are starting to turn to Instagram to reach out to potential customers. In fact, there’s a great deal of research that suggests that Instagram may actually be the best social platform for marketers to interact with their customers. Yet because it’s relatively new, companies are still learning how to use the platform to get the most out of it, especially when it comes to Instagram videos.

So how can you properly use Instagram video and make sure that you’re fitting everything you need to into a short 15 seconds? Here are some tips:

  • Use audio. Whether it’s music or speaking, make sure that you enable audio on your video as you post it. It adds an entirely new sensory level to your video and enhances the viewing experience dramatically.


  • Select an intriguing cover image. The best way to get people to watch your video is to make sure that the thumbnail/cover image for the video is interesting and likely to pull in viewers. It should capture the main idea behind your video and your campaign.


  • Only use one filter. Filters are a great tool to add another element to your videos, but to give the video some uniformity, only select one to use for the whole video. Otherwise, the filters could easily start to cause a distraction.


  • Be concise. Remember: you only have 15 seconds. Make your point quickly, and make it so that it stays with the viewer. You can’t simply have a shortened version of your online or television ads — you need to develop videos specifically for the purposes of using them on Instagram.


  • Keep size in mind. The vast majority of your viewers for Instagram videos will be people watching on their mobile devices through the Instagram app. Therefore, all the images or words that you want people to decipher need to be filmed or edited in so that they can be easily seen or read on smaller screens.
