Creating your video is just the first step of your video marketing campaign. Once you’ve got a video that you’re proud of, it’s time to publish. And you might be surprised to learn that when you publish can have just as big of an impact on your campaign’s success as what you publish.
So when are the best times to publish videos on YouTube?
According to a study by a New York company called Frederator, viewership of online videos tends to be at its peak on YouTube during weekday evenings, just like primetime television. People have gotten home from work, they’re able to sit and relax and enjoy themselves, and many people choose to unwind by surfing the web and looking up interesting videos.
So if weekday evenings are the best times for viewership, that means weekday afternoons are the best times to post your videos. After all, you need to be able to give YouTube enough time to process your videos, place them in the site’s index and send them out to your subscribers. That Frederator study suggests that you aim to post videos between 2 and 4 p.m. EST/PST on Monday through Wednesday and between 12 and 3 p.m. EST/PST on Thursday and Friday.
Out of all weekdays, Thursdays and Fridays are considered to be the best days to vote. Most YouTube regulars are still teens and young adults, and they are more likely to be viewing more videos later in the week.
Weekends are different—studies show that on Saturdays and Sundays, people are most likely to view videos in the early afternoon, meaning that if you do post a video on a weekend, try to do it in the mid- to late-morning.
Finally, the study also reveals which months tend to produce the best results for posting videos. The worst months are considered to be May and September, as those are transitional months where school and activities are starting or ending. October, November, December and March are all considered to be prime months for video posting.
Consider this information the next time you go to post a video on YouTube. You may be able to find a bit more viewership success!
