An avid traveler with an eye for digital strategy, Kris de Leon has been pairing website analytics with plane tickets for more than ten years. Currently based in Seattle, Kris focuses his statistical prowess on developing successful marketing tactics for companies eager to grow their online conversion rates through high-level, Inbound-based strategies. How does he balance his personal motivation to explore with his professional ability to procure? Find out:
Spin Creative (SC): Let’s start by breaking down “digital advertising” for those who may not know what this entails.
Kris de Leon (KDL): Using Internet technologies to promote a product or service to consumers. I use this to connect my clients’ brand and product/service offerings to their target market.
SC: How did you become interested in digital advertising?
KDL: In 2009, I read an article on Facebook marketing, and I shared it with an acquaintance that owned a small business. He asked me to help him, and word got around of my early success. One thing led to another, and I suddenly found myself working as a digital marketing specialist for an eCommerce company in Seattle. During my time there, I learned all aspects of digital marketing – social media, email marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC) and digital advertising.
SC: And how does digital advertising compare to more traditional advertising methods?
KDL: I love that it’s very easy to track return on investment (ROI) on your ad spend and use data to make marketing decisions. It’s very difficult to measure performance through traditional advertising such as TV, radio, and print ads.
SC: How did you first discover Spin Creative?
KDL: LinkedIn. Spin Creative was looking for someone with expertise using the HubSpot Inbound marketing platform.
SC: Speaking of discovery, you often describe yourself as a “digital nomad”. What does this mean to you and how does this influence your work?
KDL: Technology now allows us to connect with people anywhere in the world. Whether I’m in Seattle or Sao Paolo, I can work from my laptop as long as I have an Internet connection. I’ve worked on client projects while I traveled to Barcelona, Buenos Aires and Bogota.
SC: Amazing! What has been your favorite country visited so far?
KDL: Colombia. I’m amazed with how the country transformed from its violent past into one of the fastest growing economies in Latin America. Colombia is beautiful and diverse – you have the beaches, mountains, jungles, rainforests, and cities all within a small geographical area. The Colombians are one of the friendliest people I’ve ever met.
SC: Back to your work with Spin Creative, what has been your favorite project to-date?
KDL: I loved working with FirstPath Autism. I believe their service helps thousands of families improve their lives.
SC: One final question: Spin Creative’s slogan, “Story in Motion”—what does that mean to you?
KDL: A story is never set in stone. It’s constantly changing and evolving.
